How to hold your hook – a beginners guide

When I started my crochet journey I was a few months into it before I gave my hook a thought.

My focus had always been on the end of the hook holding the yarn and the yarn itself. I often found myself looking at it in bemusement and frustration I might add!

It then dawned on me during one video that I was holding it wrong, how could that be? I tried holding it the same way as the lady in the video was doing but it just felt wrong. This started to undermine the confidence that I had built up.

The impact was profound – I stopped taking my projects out and about with me. What if someone who knew how to crochet would see me? They would know I was an interloper and had no right to be welding that magical hook.

Of course, I eventually found out that there were different ways to hold your hook and I wasn’t doing it incorrectly. It’s evident how much it can affect us if were believe we are not doing something the “proper” way.

With that in mind, this is a great place to start your crochet initiation.

This was one of the reasons I decided to create a series of video tutorials for beginners.

There is very little you can get wrong in crochet.

This series of tutorials for complete beginners is designed to help you get comfortable with the basics in a way that suits you.

In this video, I am using a knit pro hook the link below links directly to Amazon so you can get more information about it.
